Pink Elephant Rides Only $1

Spiritual abuse has been defined as "a kind of abuse which damages the central core of who we are. It leaves us spiritually discouraged and emotionally cut off from the healing love of God." Another definition of spiritual abuse is "the mistreatment of a person who is in need of help, support or greater spiritual empowerment, with the result of weakening, undermining, or decreasing that person's spiritual empowerment."

I don't know if this was an intentional juxtaposition, but I like your comments about spiritual abuse side by side with this picture of the elephant covered in pink dye (or is it paint?). Circus elephants are a classic example of abuse, and they are very intelligent creatures and as a species have suffered a lot at the hands of animal handlers and poachers. Is it so crazy to think that animals have a spiritual being?

faustina,
thank you for your comment. i had not thought of it like that, but you have a good point. when we have positions of power we must use them to protect and provide, not to misuse and abuse. while i don't believe that animals are spiritual beings, they are God's creation and we, as stewards, should be taking care of them instead of exploiting them.

oh and i also wanted to say that i used the pink elephant because so often when there is abuse, we lose our voice. there is a huge pink elephant in the middle of the room (so to speak) and no one is saying anything about it.
